This week, we were assigned to write a piece from the perspective of Atticus, Aunt Alexandra, or Jem about the events that occurred in Ch. 13,14, or 15. I chose to write from the point of view of Jem in Ch. 15. I think this is one of the key chapters for Jem because he is very strong and courageous during the events that occurred. He is finally realizing what is actually happening with Atticus's case about Tom Robinson. He realizes what could happen to Atticus and what could happen to the family. This is what I think Jem is thinking during that time.
Today was a very interesting day. Scout, Dill, and me went to find Atticus after he left at night. It was strange that he went out at night because he usually just reads and goes to bed. He also had a light with an extension cord. I was so curious But this night, I knew something was wrong. I didn't know exactly what was going on but I knew this had somethin' to do with Atticus's case. I wanted to help him. I wanted to protect him. He's old now and he needs someone to protect him and defend him. He ain't as strong as he used to be. He needs me and I had a plan to help him. I was curious about what he was doin' and where he was goin'. So when I saw Aunty's light go off I got dressed when Scout came in. I knew she would want to come with me and she ain't takin' no for an answer. Although I preferred to go alone, we still picked up Dill along the way. To be honest, I ain't mind the company too much. We found Atticus with a crowd of men in jail. We were hiding and watching for a while until Scout jumped out and screamed at Atticus to say hi. After that Scout saw Mr. Cunningham and kept trying to talk with him. I could feel the tension in the room. I knew they were going to do something with Atticus. Even though I knew Scout n Dill should head home I also knew I would needa take them. But I wasn't goin' anywhere. Atticus kept telling me to go home but I refused and did not move. I wanted to help him. And maybe with Dill and Scout there, they wouldn't go at it with each other. I felt bad not listening to Atticus but I wasn't going to leave. Scout kept talkin' n talkin' with Mr. Cunningham but he didn't say much. She didn't get it. She didn't get that we interrupted something real serious. Mr. Cunningham finally acknowledged Scout and told her he'll say hi to Walter for her. Then they left. On our way home, I was talkin' with Atticus and I apologized and tried to explain but instead of letting me explain, he just gently rubbed my hair which meant that he understood and everything was going to be alright.
